Hormone Replacement

About Hormone Replacement

Hormone pellet therapy has been around since the 1930s and is well published in medical journals in Europe and in the U.S. European physicians documented hormone pellet therapy since 1935 when it was being used to successfully treat menopausal women.

Bio-identical hormone pellets are derived from soy, a natural plant material. Unlike synthetic hormones, the estradiol or testosterone hormones contained in the pellets are MOLECULARLY IDENTICAL in structure and in function to what is produced by the human body.

Indications for treatment

For women, symptoms of perimenopause and menopause including:

  • hot flashes and night sweats
  • anxiety, depression, mood swings
  • fatigue
  • decreased sex drive
  • poor mental clarity and forgetfulness
  • sleep problems
  • menstrual migraines
  • osteoporosis

For men, symptoms of andropause including:

  • fatigue
  • decreased sex drive
  • erectile dysfunction
  • poor mental clarity and forgetfulness
  • sleep problems

Getting Started

The first step is arranging a consultation. This will enable the provider to obtain a concise medical history. After your consultation, a lab requisition will be provided to obtain baseline labs. Based on your labs, age, weight, and symptom severity, the dosage of your hormone pellets are carefully selected.

During the actual procedure, a small area of skin around the back hip pocket is anesthetized, followed by a tiny painless incision. A small insertion device (called a trochar) is placed through the incision and the pellets, the size of rice grains, are advanced through the trochar. The incision site is then held closed with steri-strips (a special surgical tape) followed by a pressure gauze dressing. Most patients feel that the procedure is virtually painless.

The inserted pellets are slowly absorbed by the body. They provide a steady state of hormone levels for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for up to 6 months. The pellets are totally bio-identical as well as bio-available, which means that they are identical in structure and in function to the hormones produced by your body.
